Books in the works

Hi Everyone!

I know I’ve been totally MIA over the summer. I’ve been popping in to Kinky Ever After now and again, but I haven’t been posting much here, and for that I apologize!

First of all, thanks to everyone who’s read Lily Mine. I know it was out of my usual niche but the reaction was overwhelmingly supportive. It made it to at least #12 on Amazon’s Erotica Bestseller list, but then I stopped watching because to me that was already far beyond what I expected it to do and I was getting jittery just thinking about it. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for the support!

I have three books (well, four) in the works coming up. Only one will come out this year, probably this fall, and the rest you can expect in 2012, but I wanted to give my loyal blog followers a sneak peek to thank you for all you do, for so faithfully leaving reviews around the net and spreading the word to other readers. So here goes…

The next book I expect to release is called Odalisque. It’s a contemporary BDSM tale set around the odalisque lifestyle, or women who are kept by very wealthy men as pleasure slaves. You know me–I am putting a very emotional, nitty-gritty, and sometimes touching spin on the Master-slave trope and I hope you will find it fresh and exciting. I’m enjoying the hero and heroine very much and they are telling a great story with lots of twists (and humor too.) Mason Cooke and Jessamine Jackson are secondary characters in this book, so if you’ve read Comfort Object, you’ll see some familiar faces.

I’m also working on a book called Cirque du Minuit. This is another BDSM contemporary romance set in the world of an avant garde circus company. The hero and heroine will be working on an act together but a whole lot more will develop between them, some of it frightening and dark. So far it’s shaping up to be a really emotionally intense book.

There’s also The Edge of the Earth. This book is almost finished but it’s not a “lifestyle” or BDSM book so I’m not sure what to do with it… It does have an alpha hero (I don’t think I can write any other kind!) but he’s not a dom, just a manly, brainy barrel of wonderfulness. He’s a linguist whose specialty is resurrecting dying languages, and she is the last native speaker of a dialect he needs to know in order to translate an artifact he’s found. They meet up in the Caucasus and all kinds of crazy, dramatic, and wonderful things happen (including tons of hot sex, lol). It will come out via Scarlet Rose Press at some point. I am trying to stagger my BDSM and non-BDSM work so that there’s something for everyone and people don’t have to wait too long for a release in their favorite niche.

Last but not least, by reader demand, I’ve decided to write a follow up to Club Mephisto. No title yet, and it’s still in the planning stages, but I tend to agree with readers that there is still a lot of Molly’s story yet to be told. When I was writing Club Mephisto I was most interested in Molly’s desire to give herself up completely to her Master, and to resist growth or change in her circumstances out of deep slavery to her Master. Of course, both Mephisto and Molly’s Master knew that situation would not last indefinitely, no matter her devotion, and, well, it doesn’t. The follow up will tell more, but until then, just know it’s coming.

Oh–and also–by November/December time frame, Comfort Object will finally be available in paperback (Amazon only, not bookstores.) Stay tuned if you’ve been waiting to get that book in print!

Blogging next week for Whipped Cream’s BlogFest!

Hi everyone! So sorry for the radio silence. In my “real” life I have kids home for the summer so I’ve been trying to keep them busy. But good news! They go back to school soon and for the first time, I’ll be able to write full time during the day. I hope this results in many great books coming soon for your reading pleasure. I am juggling three or four at the moment, including one that I mean to develop into a series. More on that to come.

In the meantime, be sure to drop by Whipped Cream on July 30th and 31st (THIS WEEKEND!) for their Fourth Anniversary Blog Fest! I’ll be one of the eighty authors blogging over the weekend (40 on Whipped Cream Reviews, 40 on The Long and Short of It Reviews) and every time you comment you’re entered to win a Nook, Kindle, or $150 Amazon gift card, your choice.

It’s a great way to get familiar with new authors and possibly win prizes at the same time. They also have many other fourth anniversary festivities coming up, including a blog scavenger hunt and HUGE Yahoo Author Chat weekend. Click the highlighted link above to hear all the details, and please drop by to leave me some comments.

I’d love for one of you to win!

Finally, thank you so much for the outpouring of support for Lily Mine. Last I looked it was climbing the Amazon erotica bestseller list and I have you to thank for that. Thanks for talking about it and telling your friends, and for your wonderful support.

I was featured on Clemency Jopling’s new blog!

I was very flattered to learn that Clemency Jopling did a blurb on me in her fledgling blog, Clemency Jopling’s Erotic Jottings.

Clemency may or may not be “a mature English lady living in a small town near the south coast of England,” but I can tell you that no one does classic Victorian erotica quite like her, and her blog is a hoot to read. I also happen to have it on the best sources that Clemency is a big fan of our own Hall of Hotness, so her taste is clearly top notch! ๐Ÿ™‚

If you’re looking for a fresh new perspective and some cheeky English commentary on all things erotic and naughty, be sure to drop by Clemency’s blog. Link!

Lily Mine is (almost) out!

Today was a good day and a bad day. On the bad side, I found out that Firebird, a finalist in the Reader’s Crown contest, did not win in its category. However, many congratulations to Olivia Cunning for her award for Backstage Pass!

On the good side, I finally got Lily Mine uploaded for sale! Currently, it’s only available at Smashwords, since they have almost instant purchasing capability. Here is the link if you would like to purchase Lily Mine through Smashwords for $3.99. New link: Lily Mine is now also available at All Romance Ebooks (click here.)

If you prefer to buy at Amazon or Barnes and Noble, Lily Mine will be available in approximately 48 hours. At Amazon and B & N, it will be priced at a low, low $2.99! My paperback readers will also be able to order Lily Mine through Amazon or Createspace in just a few days time. The paperback price will be $9.99.

I’ll be sure to add links to all the various sites as the purchase capability goes live. I hope everyone loves the book. I know you all have been super patient waiting for me to wrestle with publishers and get it tweaked to the exact heart and soul it required. I love it as it is now, and hopefully you will too!

Owning Wednesday is now available at Amazon

I know many of my readers prefer to buy their ebooks through Amazon. I’m happy to say that Owning Wednesday is now available through Amazon’s Kindle store.

Link to purchase Owning Wednesday on Amazon!

Remember, if you are searching for my books on Amazon, only some of them show up in the general “Books” search. But if you search specifically in the Kindle store, they all show up. I’m not sure why it works that way…probably something to do with the books being erotica/adult themed.

If you are an AllRomance Ebooks customer and prefer to buy there, it’s now available there too. ๐Ÿ™‚

Comfort Object shows up in a mainstream book about sexuality!

You may or may not have heard of the research of Drs. Ogi Ogas and Sai Gaddam. They are self-professed “rogue neuroscientists” who have angered feminists, progressives and conservatives alike by bringing up the touchy issue of biology as it pertains to modern human sexual relationships.

Whether you agree with their research findings or not, what they are writing about male and female sexual behavior is gripping and refreshingly controversial. I first found out about them through the Psychology Today article which circulated a few months ago, called Why Gender Equality Does Not Always Work In The Bedroom. It’s an interesting read, not least for my readers who are so moved and aroused by power exchange.

Which brings me to the big news! A friend told me this morning that a short excerpt from Comfort Object was featured in Chapter Five of Ogas’ and Gaddam’s big shiny new controversial book, A Billion Wicked Thoughts: What the World’s Largest Experiment Reveals About Human Desire. Ooh, I was so thrilled. It was the scene where Jeremy is doing Nell over the back of the car on the way up the mountain to see his family at Christmastime. They were illustrating that while women’s erotica can be as explicit as male porn, it has an emotional component that male porn just doesn’t have.

Anyway, I just found it really, really cool that they chose me out of all the many authors they could have excerpted as examples. I have seen an uptick in sales of Comfort Object! I’ve downloaded Ogas and Gaddam’s book and I’m curious to read the rest of it. Mostly, I’m just excited to be mentioned in a book with the words “A Billion Wicked Thoughts” and “Human Desire” in the title. AWESOME!

Owning Wednesday–five cherries at Whipped Cream, and it’s up for Book of the Week!

Get your voting fingers ready, LOL. Owning Wednesday was reviewed by Violet of Whipped Cream reviews this week. She gave it a great review and 5 cherries!

You can read Violet’s review here (click!)

A short excerpt: Daniel and Wednesdayโ€™s sexual relationship is just sizzling. Owning Wednesday is a true romantic BDSM relationship. It has a dark, gothic feel. This is not a light, fun exploration of BDSM. Nor is it a book, where one of the characters is learning to be a submissive or Dominant. This is a book for people who want a darker edge. It delves into the psychology of power exchange between Daniel and Wednesday, and how that plays into a long and lasting relationship.

It’s also up for Book of the Week this week. If you’d vote for me, I’d really appreciate it. It’s just one click! Voting is only open today (Saturday) and Sunday.

You can vote for Owning Wednesday here!

Owning Wednesday is a TRR Top Pick!

Many thanks to Rebecca of TheRomanceReviews.com for reviewing my latest release, Owning Wednesday. Rebecca named it a Top Pick!

You can read the whole review here (click!)

If you haven’t read Owning Wednesday because it’s not on Amazon yet, I think it should be available soon. I’ll let everyone know when it is. For now, it is available (even in a .prc) from Loose Id! Click the book cover to be taken to the Owning Wednesday sales page.

Some updates…

Sorry I haven’t been blogging much. It’s been an exceptionally busy spring but that’s good!

Those of you who’ve been waiting for Lily Mine will be happy to hear that the edits went a lot faster than I expected. I was more or less undoing things that got turned around during the EC edits, and once the story was back on track everything fell into place almost magically. It was a wonderful feeling to see it become what I’d wanted it to be. I’ve sent it out to beta readers and the feedback so far has been great. I hope to have it out in July via Amazon/B&N/Smashwords and paperback. Thanks everyone for your patience. For my historical lovers, I hope you will find it worth the wait.

While I had Lily Mine out to beta readers, I had a goal to finish another MS that I’ve been working on for several years called The Edge of the Earth. It is very epic and romantic, and features a hot alpha male hero rather than a dom this time around. I’m happy to say that a few days ago I completed the rough draft! My goal is to have that book out in the October/November time frame, but that will depend on how edits go. More news on that to come.

Now I’m waiting to find out if Firebird wins a RomCon award at the end of June, and whether the screenplay I entered in the Nicholl Competition at least makes the quarterfinals in early July (shooting for the stars, LOL. I’d be sooo happy just to make the quarters). Wish me luck and thanks for all the support. It seems like my audience is continuing to expand and that’s thanks to word of mouth and reviews that my readers are so kind to post at various places for me.

I’ll try not to be too scarce this summer but I’ll say this…the kids get out of school on Wednesday…!

Matthew ekes out the win…

Looks like Mercy‘s dom, Matthew, wins by a close result of 35 to 27. Actually, I’m almost inclined to call it a tie. ๐Ÿ™‚

I love both Matthew and Jeremy very much, so the close results don’t surprise me. I am a little nervous because my next two books in line for release, Lily Mine and The Edge of the Earth, are much less BDSM books and much more alpha-male books. They both had characters and stories that didn’t lend themselves to the traditional BDSM dom/sub set up.

But the guys are still emotionally complex, sexually demanding, and extremely toppy–there’s definite power exchange. Just not the usual BDSM trappings. So maybe my readers will like them just the same. I hope so.

Jeremy and Matthew will always have a place in my heart, though, and I hope I can keep writing doms (or alpha-male-heroes) that affect readers just as much as they have. Thanks again everyone for voting and playing along in my “Battle of the Doms”!

Battle of the Doms — the Finals!

Okay, let’s start with the battle between Jeremy and Kyle. As of this writing, Jeremy is ahead with 38 votes to 5. REALLY!!?? It’s so funny, because I was so afraid of how romance readers would react to Jeremy. But it seems I had nothing to worry about because you all clearly lurv Jeremy by a factor of 7 to 1. (I think. My math has never been that hot.) On the other hand, let’s be fair. Our young Kyle was but a dilettante wading into the waters of BDSM perversity, and he was dragging a bit of a hothead heroine to boot. Kyle will always have a special place in my heart (even if he is a big LOOOOSER!!)

On to the second battle, between best friends Dave and Ryan. They were actually neck and neck for a while, but as of this writing, Ryan is ahead, 22 to 13. It doesn’t surprise me that readers find it hard to choose between these two, because they are very similar. I think Ryan edges out for me too because of his whole charming origami thing. Crafty guys are the best. Oh yeah, and guys who can perform delicate, lifesaving brain surgery. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Last but not least, we have the battle between Matthew of Mercy and Daniel of Owning Wednesday. Somehow I thought this would be a close one too, but Matthew is currently beating Daniel by a vote of 30-8.

So what does this tell me? Y’all love your emotionally fragile and perversely demanding doms! But you know what? So do I!

And you know what we have to do now…that’s right… Everyone vote now, and thanks for playing! This has been so fun.

Guest posting at The Forbidden Bookshelf about kink and the non-kinky reader

Yes! Believe it or not, non-kinky people read and very much enjoy kinky erotica. Today, over at The Forbidden Bookshelf, I’m posting and chatting about the politics and pitfalls of writing kinky erotica for vanilla readers.

Where do you fall on the spectrum? Super kinky? Kinky-every-once-in-a-while? Non-kinky, and just into the fantasy?

Please come over and join in the discussion!
