The TNEE post

If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, or especially Instagram, then you know that I attended the first annual TNEE last weekend (TNEE stands for The Novel Experience Event).

As always when I attend these things, I am dying of nervousness and stress in the days leading up to it, and then I have a blast. You can see me here being nervous, happy, excited and slightly dorky as I wait for the book signing to begin. There were SO MANY AUTHORS!

IMG_3441

I got to talk to a bunch of wonderful readers and even a few AJ fangirls, which was so amazing. There were many smiles. Also, I TOTALLY GOT A PICTURE WITH MICHAEL FASSBENDER*!

IMG_3440

*not really a picture with Michael Fassbender

After the book signing it was on to a Badass Books, BDSM Authors party dreamed up by the lovely Bianca Sommerland. Me, Candace Blevins, and Sasha White all hosted too. There was dancing and karaoke, raffle tickets and baskets full of sex toys, and perhaps most importantly, extremely fine models-for-hire applying temporary tattoos to the guest’s bodies. I’m just gonna let the pictures speak for themselves.

 IMG_3463 IMG_3466 IMG_3469

Here’s an awesome lady named Mandy flipping me off while she gets double team tattooed. (Don’t act like you wouldn’t want the exact same thing.)

IMG_3471

In fact, here’s me getting the exact same thing. They’re all like, holding me down and forcing me to get double-tattooed. Okay, not really but it was a fun fantasy…

IMG_3472

IMG_3479

I love the look on these lovely ladies’ faces!!

IMG_3461

I kind of had the same look when I was in the model sandwich…and Jared and Henrique were the best. They had muscles and all that. Not to objectify them or anything. Okay, who am I kidding?

IMG_3458

There was also mad dancing with some of the craziest, most wonderful party guests anyone could ever have wished for.

IMG_3487

Right in the middle of the party, I saw a woman wearing an I Like Naughty Books AJ shirt that she had gotten earlier at the book signing, and of course I ran over and attacked her with a happy hug and made her be in a picture with me.

IMG_3480

I was super glad I went to TNEE and I’m super glad we hosted the party, even though I was nervous as crazyballs. If you ever have a chance to come out to a conference I would love to see you! My next appearance will be on the Think Track at Frolicon in Atlanta, GA, over Easter weekend. More info here (click).

Then from August 6-10, I’ll be at Authors After Dark Romance Convention 2014 in Charlotte, NC. This will be my second AAD, and there are already plans in the works for some special BDSM themed events.

Finally, I’ll be heading to the west coast for the first time to participate in KallypsoCon 2014 with Kallypso Masters, Lexi Blake, Eliza Gayle, Kennedy Layne, Red Phoenix, and Cherise Sinclair. KallypsoCon is taking place October 10-12 in Everett, WA (near Seattle.) It’ll be a reader-focused event with meals, panels, BDSM demos, book signings, and other fun stuff. Registration slots are limited so if you want to come hang out with us at this intimate convention, be sure to register ASAP. What a line up!

Thanks for reading about my TNEE adventures! Next year it’s in Las Vegas and I won’t be able to attend but you can learn more about the future event by visiting the TNEE Facebook page here.

Brand Spanking New Comfort Series covers!

I confess, I’ve never been much of a planner.

Most of my series came about because a) readers browbeat me for more or b) secondary characters decided halfway through the first book that THEY also needed a book. (Hello, Mr. Rubio.) One problem with creating series on the fly is that, in the case of the Comfort series, I had worked with several different cover artists over the years and ended up with several different types of covers.

Then my friend Kate from Bad Star Media suggested re-doing the covers in a more updated, coordinated way. She came back with some mock ups and I loved the feel of them, and I especially loved how they communicated the mood of the stories. (It also helped that she had read the books!)

So I present to you the new Comfort series covers!

I’ll keep the previous covers on my Pinterest board for old times’ sake, in case anyone has a particular favorite, but as of now I think I have all the new covers uploaded at the various sites.

And if you’re looking for a professional, creative, enthusiastic cover artist specializing in “fierce covers” and branding for indie authors, shoot Kate an email. You can check out her Bad Star Media website and view her (very competitive) pricing here (click).

Valentine’s Day Gift Hop!

Welcome, heart hoppers!

If you’re here, you probably already know that a huge group of us got together to celebrate love, sex, and all things books in this year’s Valentine’s Day Gift hop from February 10-15! The grand prize is a Kindle Paperwhite and digital new adult romance basket, and every comment on every blog in the hop will count as an entry toward either of the grand prizes. I’ll also be giving away an Annabel Joseph bag (pictured below) and signed paperback of your choice, so be sure to leave a comment below if you’d like to be entered to win!

I hope you have some sweet plans for Valentines Day, whether or not you have a honey in your life at the moment. One thing I learned about Valentine’s this year is that it’s not celebrated on the same day in every part of the world. My friend Maryara told me that in Brazil, they celebrate Valentine’s Day, or Dia dos Namorados, on June 12. Dia dos Namorados translates more literally to “Day of the Enamored” which I think is the coolest thing ever. So you know what my Brazilian hero Rubio is going to be doing on June 12…lucky Petra!

valentines pic

To make this more fun, why not comment on an exotic or foreign place YOU’D like to spend Valentine’s Day? Remember, I’ll pick one random commenter here to win an AJ bag and signed book of your choice, and you’ll also be entered to win the Hop’s grand prize. Be sure to visit all the blogs below to comment like crazy and hopefully win something! Good luck!

Keep hopping! Click here to find links to the other participating authors and blogs!

In case you missed my LIVE Passion Zone appearance…

I did promise to post the link to my Passion Zone chat here. If you’d like to listen to our fun and crazy discourse, you can find the entire recorded podcast here:

A million thanks to all my readers who tuned in and posted questions in the chat room, and a million thanks to Scarlet Wylde and Allie Thiess for having me on the show. I had a blast!

Best Bondage 2014 is finally out!

I’m so thrilled and proud to report that my short story, The Neckcloth, was selected for one of Rachel Kramer Bussel’s kinky anthologies, and that anthology, Best Bondage Erotica 2014, is OUT NOW!

Right now it appears it’s only available in paperback, but I’m sure an ebook is on the way. If you’ve never read a RKB anthology, you should. They’re full of yummy kinkiness and a wide variety of dynamics and  play, and I’m so excited to finally be in one.

You can learn more about Best Bondage Erotica 2014 here at Rachel’s site (click).

Snippet Sunday: BOUND IN BLUE (and cover reveal!)

The last few weeks, I’ve been cruelly and sadistically teasing my Twitter and Facebook followers with lurid hints about my upcoming Cirque de Minuit sequel. I’m happy to say it has a title and a cover now, and I think it looks lovely sitting alongside the original book in the series. So here it is: Bound in Blue.

Cirque de minuit annabel joseph

Bound in Blue by Annabel Joseph

Many, many thanks to my cover wizard, Adrienne Wilder (who is also a KICKASS M/M author if you are looking for incredible, emotional reads.)

Anyway, as many of you know, Bound in Blue is about Jason Beck, the exacting coach from Cirque de Minuit. I think “exacting” is a pretty good word for him. Until I started writing his love story, I didn’t realize what a hardass he would be in the bedroom. But we like that, don’t we?

Here’s a little snippet of a scene between Jason and Sara. I can’t promise these exact words will be in the final book, since it’s so early in the process, but I hope you enjoy the naughtiness.

Sara squeezed her eyes shut, close to tears as the cane’s tip molested her most sensitive parts. She truly felt shamed. She truly felt he was her Master and she truly wanted to please him, even though all of this was a game. She gritted her teeth and steeled herself not to arch and press against the blessed relief of the implement’s caress.

“That’s right. Still and docile. Fulfilling my pleasure, not yours.” His low voice thrilled her, gave her the fortitude to hold motionless as he teased her, on and on and on. It was maybe a minute, but it felt like an hour that he toyed with her clit. She heard him laugh, felt the cane disappear and then felt a light tap across the soles of her feet. “Uncurl your toes, good girl. That’s over. The teasing anyway.”

But not the–ow! He gave her a solid, burning stroke, so she howled and twisted out of her required pose.

“No,” he said. “Try again. I thought we were getting somewhere. Kneel straight and open yourself for Master. For Master’s will and Master’s pain.”

Something about his voice hypnotized her, or bespelled her. Something about him touched her so deeply that she resumed her position of great vulnerability, even knowing the pain to come.

“Master, Master…” she sighed. She never cried during scenes but her eyes felt hot and prickly. She felt a few tears squeeze through her tightly-shut lids. How much more would he give her? How much more could she take? Her ass felt huge and hot, each stripe of the cane a throbbing weal. What she wanted more than anything was to be joined to him physically, to take his power and mastery into her body in the ultimate surrender. She wanted to cry, “When will you fuck me?” but he didn’t want that. She understood that he didn’t want her demands and greediness, her horny weakness. He wanted her control. He wanted her to be a dignified, well-behaved slave.

So yeah, that’s about how they get on. Very…very much…into each other. In the coming weeks I’ll have more info for you, and a blurb, hopefully. I’m writing the last couple chapters now and then I’ll get to editing and I’ll have more to share.

In the meantime, I’ll be participating in a “Pillow Talk” discussion in the BDSM group on Goodreads on Wednesday, November 13, to talk about their Bedtime Stories audio clip of Fever Dream, and also any other questions you want to post. So if you’re in that group, be sure to stop by, as I’ll be visiting the discussion frequently! I’ll be tweeting and Facebooking about it, so stay tuned!

Snapshot Sunday and Cirque de Minuit sequel info

Those of you who follow me on Twitter and Facebook may already know that I’ve started on a sequel to Cirque de Minuit. I’ve always intended to write stories for Jason Beck, Kelsey’s coach, and Michel Lemaitre, the fetish-pervy Cirque owner, culminating in a three-book series. (Maybe four…we’ll see.)

My job for the next couple weeks is to figure out a name for Jason’s book, and then I’ll share a snippet. So far, it’s shaping up to fall on the intense side, since Jason’s a lot more of a hardass than I gave him credit for. Our sexy coach travels across the world to scout an act at an exotic circus, and finds a trapezist who’s not what she appears to be. There are secrets, and lies, and longing, and of course, megaloads of intensely sexual power exchange on their road to true love.

I’ll leave you with this week’s “snapshot.” I apologize that I don’t know who to credit it to, but it sure is inspiring to me.

My Eroticon Report

Well, I promised a recap of EroticonUSA 2013, so here it goes…and it was fun. Definitely over too fast!

First of all, I lost all my photos so I’ll have to use my Instagrams to tell this story. So…the venue was 595 North in Atlanta. It was a pimpalicious place. Black leather, lots of levels, lots of beams overhead, lots of tucked away private spaces. It would make a great sex club. For reals.

Eroticon venue

The first session I watched was by Jincey Lumpkin of Juicy Pink Box. All I really remember is that she was amazing and pretty and a really savvy freaking erotica-based businesswoman who used to be a lawyer. Now she produces classy lesbian porn and I thought that was hot. Then I did a session with my friends Linzy and Tasha about starting a successful critique group. They really killed it! Well, we all killed it but they are the organizational geniuses so I bow down to them. Here are my wonderful friends with another cool gal and erotica writer named Kristen who also goes by PoeticDesires.

Tasha L. Harrison, Linzy Antoinette, Kristen poetic desires

Then I attended a workshop on blog dos and don’ts by Molly Moore of Molly’s Daily Kiss. In that workshop I learned that I’m doing tons of stuff wrong! But that’s okay. Now I know some tricks to be better at blogging. Following that I took another workshop on complicated internet stuff by her partner, who goes by DomSigns on Twitter. Again, I learned all the things I’ve been doing wrong. When I get a few extra hours in my day I’ll go back and fix all the stuff I’ve done wrong, haha.

After that I did a workshop of my own on Sensation vs. Emotion in erotic writing. I envisioned it being more of a round table discussion than a class I was teaching (cause I’m not a teaching type of person.) Thanks to the attendees it really exceeded my hopes as far as the discussion. Everyone was generous about sharing ideas and pitching into the conversation and hopefully everyone left feeling inspired.

Afterward I gave out some swag, and the super cool Renee Rose asked for an Annabel Joseph paddle and we posed with it together. I was so happy to meet her and she was so nice! Renee writes super HAWT spanking fiction and I’ve definitely got her books on my Kindle. We are both spankos at heart.

Annabel Joseph and Renee Rose

The last thing I did was attend a BDSM demo and info session by Graydancer. He is pretty much a legend in kink circles and me and my gals agreed he has got some mojo going on. I was sad I had to leave before it was over but believe me, a fun time was had by all!

demo

There were a lot of parties and social events connected to Eroticon that I couldn’t attend due to family engagements. But I can say that everyone who attended LOVED it and I’m sure it will only get bigger and better every year. Thanks for stopping by to read about my adventures. With all my conferences finished for 2013, I hope to get back to my Snippet and Snapshot Sundays soon!

And next year, I plan to be at TNEE (The Novel Experience Event) in Atlanta in March, Authors After Dark in Charlotte in August, and an as-yet-unnamed-and-unplanned BDSM author event out west in October. If you want to keep up to date on my appearances/book releases/works in progress/etc., be sure to sign up for my newsletter list here or by clicking on the link in the bar above.

Eroticon USA is this weekend!

I’m so excited to be one of the speakers at the first Eroticon conference in the U.S. As part of the online meet n greet, Imma answer these questions for you!:

Name: Annabel Joseph

Twitter id: @annabeljoseph

Where in the world are you? Atlanta, GA

What brings you to Eroticon USA? It’s right in my town and I wanted to come out and meet some of my fellow erotic authors.

What are you looking forward to most about Eroticon USA?

Well, I’m excited about doing my presentations, but I’m also excited to meet Molly Moore of Molly’s Daily Kiss, because she’s so awesome on Twitter, and I’m also excited about seeing Graydancer’s Hands On Kink demo, because I’m super kinky and because I’ve admired his profile on Fetlife. But I’m sad that I’ll have to leave directly after that for a Balalaika concert. Well, I like the concert but I’m sad I won’t be around for the closing events.

If you had to make up a pen name again what would it be? I already have one. It’s Annabel Joseph! I just used the formula: my best friend’s name growing up, and the street I grew up on.

I’ll be sure to post afterward, about all the fun times at Eroticon!

Indie Romance Convention 2013

First of all, I have to thank Cynthia N., Cindy C., Kim H., Melanie Anne, Riane H., and Mayas S. for sharing their photos with me on Facebook (since I was too busy to take my own!) It was a pleasure to meet all of you! Thanks to you, I have these great pictures to post on my blog.

I’ll try to remember everything that happened, but it was BUSY. When I arrived at the IRC in Tennessee, the first thing I did was have lunch with Kallypso Masters and her readers, as well as my #WriteBitches pals, Linzy Antoinette, Tasha L. Harrison, and Chhaya Delaine. After that we headed to the hotel to prepare for the BDSM Demo event that Kally coordinated with me and Red Phoenix. She invited some lifestyle friends of hers, ToyMaker and Eirocawakening, to show the attendees their kink gear and talk to us about the lifestyle.

It was so fun!! Ladies were volunteering to test out the toys and gear, and even get zapped with a violet wand. Best of all, I got to meet two really awesome people who were willing to share their private life with the world.

Here’s me and Red and Kally welcoming all the attendees.

Here’s me and Eirocawakening on the right, with Mayas Sanders on the left, who is a blogger with ReadingByTheBook.com, and a super fun, supportive reader. These pics are from her friend Kim who was awesome too!

Mayas, me, and Kim! These ladies were super smiley.

And here’s me, Red, and Kally again with our big smiles!!

That night we had a pizza party and heard a keynote speech from Victoria Danann. She was such a good speaker. I’ve never read her stuff before but now I might!

The next day I gave an hour-long class on writing BDSM Romance. I was afraid no one would come because it was at 8 in the morning but miraculously, I did have fifteen or so attendees, including Holly Roberts, who I was overjoyed to meet. We had been email and Facebook friends for a while and she was so sharp and so classy. I wish I had more pictures of the workshop because everyone was great but I think we were just all too tired. I did have this great picture of me and Riane. Thanks for sharing it, girl!

me and Riane at IRC

Later that day I participated in a panel called “Let’s Talk About Sex.” It was fun because it wasn’t just smutty writers like me. We also had inspirational writers, over-40 romance writers, young and new adult writers, etc. It was fun to see the different strategies we used to add romantic tension vs. hot sex into our books. There were tons of people there too, and that was fun. Here’s me with (from top left) Lori Brighton, Kallypso Masters, Donna McDonald (front row:) Angela Brown, Kym Grosso, and Hailee Bridgeman. Thanks to Melanie Anne for the pic!

IRC from Melanie Ann

A little while after that, we had the book signing. Book signings are quickly becoming my favorite part of these conferences, not because I’m mercenary and I only want to sell books, but because it’s so heartwarming when people come up and say, hey, I’m going to try your books out. And they smile and talk with you. It’s awesome! Or even better, someone comes up and grabs a book and says, this is my absolute favorite book by you and now I get to have a signed copy of it (Bethany :-)) Well, it’s just really cool. I have this photo courtesy of Cindy, and you can see me there in the far right all super happy talking to a reader. It was fun!

book signing IRC

After the book signing things were winding down. Me and my writer group buds headed to the Mexican dinner and enjoyed sangria, margaritas, tacos, burritos, ceviche and other good stuff. Thanks for the picture, Kim!

Everyone had a great time at this con because it was really small and everyone there was super friendly and welcoming. I was so happy to be invited and hopefully I picked up a few new readers. Thanks for reading my Indie Romance Con report. 🙂

Snippet Sunday: FEVER DREAM and THANK YOU!

Where do I even begin? I am deeply moved by all of your support this week. I had planned this little 99 cent sale of Waking Kiss to celebrate Fever Dream‘s release.  I hoped and prayed the word would get around, but I didn’t want to get my hopes up. Next thing I knew, everyone was tweeting about the sale, Facebook posting about it, talking about it on Goodreads… AMAZING! When I got up in the morning Waking Kiss was nearing the top ten of the erotica charts on Amazon and well… I’m speechless. Thanks everyone for your kindness and generosity in promoting me. I can’t thank you enough.

And with so many people grabbing Waking Kiss, I wanted Fever Dream to be available, so I uploaded it a couple days before the Sept. 30 release date. YAY! So it’s out, and you can purchase it at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Smashwords, or AllRomanceebooks. You can also grab a paperback copy here (click.)

To celebrate this wonderful week, I thought I’d share a super hot snippet from Fever Dream, as well as a super cool surprise I got from my friend Maryara in Brazil (who helped me with all the Portuguese in the book!) What do you think??!!

TEAM RUBIO!!

Many thanks to Maryara for the inspiration and help, and thanks to all of you for the reviews, recs, and encouragement. You inspire me. And now, here’s a little something to inspire you. 🙂

“You smell like sugar,” he said against her ear. “I dream about it…” His voice went out on a gasp and he drove into her harder, faster, lifting her from the floor with the force of his thrusts. Her pussy clenched around him as her orgasm erupted without conscious thought. It was a reflex, a natural outcome of being joined to him. He wrapped her in his arms, and she thought she could feel his heartbeat beneath her own heart’s frantic pounding. He ground his hips against hers. His whole body tensed and shuddered, and then he grabbed two handfuls of her hair and pressed his forehead to her back.

“Petra,” he sighed. “What do you do to me?”

He drew back and flipped her over, and kissed her as she clung to him, basking in the feeling of his hard body pressed against hers. After a while, he pulled away to take off the condom.

“Careful,” he said. “So no baby. Right?”

She nodded, so appreciative of the care he took. She had to look away, or she was afraid he’d see everything she felt about him. I love you. I’m trying to fight it but I can’t.

He wrapped his arms around her and held her close, right there in the middle of the hard floor. Neither one of them spoke for a moment and then he said, “That was good. Good scene.” He ran a fingertip up her arm, raising goose bumps. “I like to be with you, Petra. You make me happy. This is okay, isn’t it?”

Petra chose the vaguest answer possible. “I think it has to be okay.”

“Hmm.” He answered that tentative statement with a kiss. “Everything is okay. Very okay then. Are you happy too?”

She didn’t have to think twice about it. “Yes, I’m happy.”

“Maybe soon…” He paused. “When we have a day off, maybe it’s time to visit the play room together. Try out some of the equipment.”

She wasn’t sure whether her shiver was born of excitement or anxiety. She just knew “soon” couldn’t come soon enough.

Much love to all of you…thanks for making this release week so special!

FeverDream200x300

Snapshot Sunday, and book release news

For your visual pleasure this week, I thought I’d share the all-new Waking Kiss cover. I did love the previous cover, but it didn’t exactly scream erotic subject matter and I didn’t want readers to be confused. I feel this cover better communicates “erotic romance” and also matches the Fever Dream cover.  Covers are always a really hard thing. I do my best.

Waking Kiss NEW 200x300FeverDream200x300

I decided since Waking Kiss has a new cover, and a new sequel, I’m going to mark it down to 99 cents at the end of September to coincide with Fever Dream‘s release. So if you haven’t bought Waking Kiss yet, hold off and you can save a few bucks! When I drop the price I’ll post here and on Twitter and Facebook so you can help me spread the word. Let’s grow Annabel Joseph’s Naughty Brigade!

And I’ll let everyone know the second I start uploading Fever Dream for release. You’re going to love this one! Sexy, funny, and HAWT!

Snippet Sunday: FEVER DREAM

Well, it’s getting close enough that I’m going to start teasing you with snippets of my upcoming release, Fever Dream.  Been missing Liam and Ashleigh from Waking Kiss? You’ll definitely see them again, AND you’ll learn much more about our bad boy Rubio, who has some real heart to go along with that libido.

But before the heart, Rubio and Petra have some stops and starts along the way. Everything’s complicated by the fact that they work together in a highly scrutinized ballet partnership.

What follows is a scene from the very beginning of their BDSM relationship, in Ruby’s POV. They’re about to embark on a different kind of partnership, which Petra insists won’t involve sex. Any bets how long that lasts? 😉

She sucked in a deep breath, stealing another glance at his hardening tool. “I don’t want there to be any sex.”

“Why not? I’m clean. We’ll be safe.”

She squared her shoulders and tugged at the hem of her dress. “I’ll let you spank me if you want. Do a scene with me out there.” She gestured to the equipment. “But no sex. I want you to put some pants on. Your hard-on is scaring me.” She shaded her eyes, like she hadn’t just been leering at his erection.

“No sex at all?” he asked. “You’re sure? You don’t think I’m sexy?”

“It’s the whole…the whole partner thing.”

“Okay,” he said. “I’ll put my pants on, but only if you take your clothes off.”

“What?”

He shrugged. “That’s my offer. I’ll dress if you undress.”

“Oh, we’re bargaining?”

He made a show of looking around. “No one cares if you’re naked. I don’t care. I already know your body anyway, all of it. I feel it with my hands every day.”

“The thing is, I’ve never done…I’ve never done anything public like this before.”

“Only your dress off,” he said. “My final offer. But it’s better if we’re both naked.”

“No it’s not, because we’re not going to have sex.” She pointed a finger at him. “I’m serious.”

“You don’t trust me?”

She almost said no, he could see it, but he’d never given her any reason not to trust him. Not in class, not in rehearsals, not onstage. He’d never once been careless or endangered her, or come close to dropping her, or did anything that might injure her or derail her career. “I trust you,” she finally admitted in a grudging tone. “You’re just really, really… God, Rubio. You might poke out my eyes with that thing waving loose.”

“Come on,” he said, taking her hand and leading her across the room. He found his jeans by the back wall and pulled them on, stuffing his erection into the rough denim. It would go down in a minute. Or not.

A horse. He’d make her straddle a sawhorse, secure her arms over her head so she couldn’t flail around too much. And then…

He rubbed the front of his fly. This was going to leave him with a horrible case of blue balls, but if she didn’t want sex, he couldn’t force her. If he played this scene right, they could start a whole journey of pain and submission and, eventually, she’d want something more. Like in ballet, he’d partner her, hold her steady and guide her through the hard parts.

     We can make perfection together.

She looked around self-consciously as he led her to the right side of the room, to a padded horse that was currently unoccupied. Strange, to see Petra without her usual confidence, but he liked her better this way. She was letting down walls, allowing him to see a sliver of her vulnerability. A sliver, that’s all she would give.

Like Liam in Waking Kiss, Rubio is a top, not a dominant. He insists on what he wants in the bedroom and play room, but he’s not heavy into roles anyplace else.

I probably won’t write another “plain top” for a while, but it is kind of fun when people are going at power exchange just for the pleasure aspect, as opposed to living “the lifestyle” or focusing on titles, rules, and protocols. It can get very dirty and naughty, and Petra loves naughty, just like us! Stay tuned for more info about Fever Dream, the sequel to Waking Kiss, coming out by the end of this month. If you click the book cover below, you can find it on Goodreads and add it to your TBR list.

Authors After Dark–Friday and Saturday (and Sunday)

So, in case you missed the post about the first two days of AAD, we ended Thursday night with a VERY late Ghost tour. As in, we went to bed at 4 am after much drinking, gabbing, and other shenanigans. Needless to say, I didn’t manage to make it to breakfast Friday morning, but I did make it to lunch with Eliza Gayle, which was very delicious and very much appreciated after our crazy night.

After that we visited an Indie resources event where I got to meet and hug one of my cover and graphic art designers, Robin Ludwig of Robin Ludwig Design. She was so sweet and we talked to her about covers and indie publishing for a while. Then it was on to the BDSM Bingo event, organized by Ann Mayburn.

BDSM Bingo

I was so out-of-my-mind excited for this only to have a chance to meet so many of my heroes. In addition to Ann, the event featured Kallypso Masters, Eliza Gayle, Cherise Sinclair, Yvette Hines, Sasha White, and Joey W. Hill.

I KNOW! Can you BELIEVE IT?

Here’s a picture of all of us. I was just soaking it in. And trying to breathe, since I was wearing a corset, lol.

It was really fun. We called out kinky words and read the definitions while the contestants filled out Bingo cards. My friend Jenniloo ended up being the first winner and she chose my awesome (and somewhat silly) Plausible Deniability Basket, filled with all kinds of quasi-BDSM-toys which were also stuff anyone might have around the house.

After Bingo we attended an Indie panel with Kallypso, Cherise, and some other indie authors giving advice about self publishing. It was very informative. Then it was up to the room to get ready for the Vampire Ball. By getting ready I mean me and Chhaya Delaine did this:

Haha, no, not really. I’m not much of a drinker. Well, not usually. Here’s all of us outside the ballroom waiting to go in: Lanie, Donjaline, Renee, Ny Corson, Chhaya, and me.

Here’s a pic of me with Jenniloo and Scarlet Wylde again!!

If I find any more pictures of the Vampire Ball I’ll post them but so far this is all I could find. Which is funny because I was there for a long time dancing and chatting away, lol. And talking to readers! Several readers approached me to introduce themselves during the Vamp Ball and we had wonderful conversations. It made a great night even more wonderful.

In fact, over the course of AAD I met with and talked to so many people that I was hoarse by Sunday Am (and I still am!) I got to meet people I’d known online for a while, including lovely, smiling Cynthia G., and the inimitable Laura Topaz, who kept us all in stitches. After the Vamp Ball, me, Linzy Antoinette, Laura, Chhaya Delaine, and Elissa Stark stayed up talking and laughing until the wee hours of the morning. Here’s me and Laura…I am giving her some aftercare. (Long story, lol) Notice her cool handcuff bracelet!

We finally got to bed around two am, so we could be well rested for the Saturday morning Meet n Greet n Eat. Here are me and Linzy with everything spread out Saturday AM, waiting for the first guests to arrive.

meet n greet

We had lots of waves of people come through, and it was great to share some mimosas and junk food and just hang out.

Here’s one of my new friends, Yolanda, telling me, Sherrie, and Marcia about a really wack book she was supposed to review once. Thankfully it wasn’t one of mine!

meet n greet 3

After the Meet n Greet, I rested for a bit and got ready for the Book Signing from 2-4. I didn’t know what to expect. I’d brought about 60 books but I had no idea if I would sell three or ten or fifty. In the end I ended up selling all but 8 of the books and that was really exciting! I also gave away Annabel Joseph tote bags which was great because people needed them for all the books they were buying.

There were authors and books everywhere and it was nice to have a chance to talk again with all the friends I’d met. And I got to sit next to my new pal Yvette Hines, which was the icing on the cake. Also, they brought us food and water halfway through, so we didn’t wilt. Look how happy I was at my little author table! I had a blast.

After that, there was just one more big event, and it was the one I’d sponsored–The Elemental Ball.

Me and Erin Quinn were the two authors in charge of the “Spirit” section, so I went all out as the spirit of Marie Antoinette. Really, I just wanted to wear a big hoopskirt gown and a beehive white wig but you know…you do what you have to do. Here I am, pre-wig, applying Band-aids to my feet.

getting ready for ball

Here I am post wig, just after Linzy applied some fancy eyeliner for me since I do not know how to do it myself. Notice my embarrassed, slightly exasperated expression. The white makeup was a THING.

Now, I have to take a minute and talk about my friends Linzy, Chhaya, Renee Regent, Lanie Flin, Donjaline Hope, Ny Corson, Elissa, Janine, and Karen, all of whom helped me stuff 500 bags of swag, helped me create a cool centerpiece, helped me get my outrageous get-up on, helped me get downstairs and around the con with all the things I needed…well, you get the picture. I couldn’t have done it all without them. And just after Linzy had painstakingly put on my eyeliner, my friends presented me with this…

It’s a collage of little notes they wrote me and the bookmarks and swag I’d brought to the conference. To answer your question, YES, I almost started bawling, but NO, I restrained myself because of the eyeliner previously mentioned. But anyway, that was basically the theme of the night…that everyone was so wonderful and the whole conference was SO worth it no matter the time, effort, and cost.

After that, it was time to go downstairs. Outside the door to the ballroom, people were already lining up. Everyone was smiling and hugging me. I felt kinda like a rock star but kinda awkward too, like I was going to keel over in the hoopskirt any minute. Here’s me and my friend Cynthia in her beautiful outfit.

Inside I was able to greet my table guests and check out all the amazing costumes. I am still collecting photos of all my friends but here were some I already have on hand. Me and Laura Topaz, who is so warm and wonderful:

So…afterward we returned to the suite to collapse and appreciate all our AAD experiences. Here’s Laura Topaz getting more “aftercare” from me and Linzy, who still had her “Zom-bee” makeup on.

aftercare

You can’t tell by this photo but Joey W. Hill was sitting right across from us and she told me she’d read Deep in the Woods and that she loved it, and I kind of thought to myself, is this really my life? Do I really have these remarkable friends and remarkable fellow authors who are so kind and supportive? I asked for a photo with her because…you know…omg. Now I am laughing at how bedraggled I looked, but it was okay. She is such a wonderful classy lady. It was an honor to meet her.

Anna and Joey

I bet you’re thinking, well, the post will finally be over. But NO, because I gave away a prize at the Welcome Ceremony on Wednesday, which was Breakfast with Annabel Joseph. So on Sunday morning I had breakfast with a lovely woman named Christine, along with her daughter, who I didn’t realize was author Jaime Rush. (I KNOW!) My friend Renee joined us and we had a great time at Clary’s Cafe talking about past lives, real estate, publishing, and other diverse topics. Then me and Renee headed back to Atlanta, exhausted and happy, still talking animatedly about our writing and publishing and future dreams.

SO…I am scheduled to be a featured author next year at AAD in Charlotte, NC, and I can’t wait. There are so many people to thank but all I am going to say is that I have the best friends and readers in the world, and leave it at that.
