For my Mercy lovers…

I’ve seen this ballet vid a few times recently and kept coming back to it. I couldn’t figure out why Justin Peck is so transfixing to me. (Well, besides the obvious reasons like his handsome face, banging bod, and beautiful technique.)

Then it hit me. He looks exactly the way I pictured Gregoire, Lucy Merritt’s nurturing and talented dance partner in Mercy. I loved writing Gregoire and I saw him as a very beautiful person, both inside and out. I hope you’ll enjoy this short video (and handsome Justin Peck.)

My favorite part is the part at the end, around 1:35, when he does the spin and dip with Janie and you can see the attention and concentration on his face. Le sigh. Ballet is beautiful.

  1. I saw this clip on your twitter page and thought it was stunning, breathless and makes you realize how beautiful dance is and how to me it’s talking with your body. How freeing it is to move with music even with two left feet.

  2. I know! It’s like a completely new way for two people to communicate too, especially when you see these partnerships and how the two dancers work together. Amazing! It just fascinates me to no end. Which I guess is why I wrote two books set in the dance world 🙂

  3. There is a movie called The Red Shoes, it’s a old movie from 1948. I fell in love with it when I was younger it’s one of those movies that if it came on I would watch it.

It’s about a young woman who who is a ballerina who falls in love with a man, but is so passionate about becoming a prima ballerina that she is basically torn in two the man she loves or her love of dance, great movie.

  4. What a beautifulo clip! I used to go see the NYC Ballet every season with my mom or an aunt and it’s been years now. This just reminded me how much I love it and could look at these amazing bodies in motion for hours and hours!. Thanks for sharing it..

  5. Yes, Gregoire could have had a wonderful story but he’s already so happy where he is. He always seemed like such a sweet, happy, nurturing man in my eyes. Maybe I’ll write someone like him someday. 🙂
