Seventeen Sentence Sunday: Cirque du Minuit

This week I’m featuring Cirque du Minuit for Seventeen Sentence Sunday. This is probably among my favorite books I’ve written, in large part because Theo is my dream bad boy. Reckless, sexy, demanding–with a French accent. And of course, the softest heart in the world underneath. Here, he introduces Kelsey to the art of aerial silks.

“This tree is stronger than you can imagine. The silk is strong, I am strong.” He paused to wrap his leg in the silk as he hung beside her. “What about you? Strong enough, Kelsey? Brave enough?”

She resisted the urge to look down, instead keeping her gaze locked on Theo’s darkly animated eyes. “I just need a little time to get used to this before you start scaring me again.”

Theo blinked in innocence. “Scaring you? Moi? I don’t know what you speak of.” He reached out to her, pulling her close, both of them swaying thirty feet up, limbs wrapped in diaphanous silk. “You be a good, brave girl, and I’ll let you come back my place after, eh?”

She always imagined him as dark, threatening, but up close he had light, tiny freckles on the bridge of his nose. His arm tightened around her. His lips were so close she could feel their warmth. “You want, Kel-zee?”

Yes, I know there are eighteen sentences this week. I’m a rulebreaker!

If you’re into demanding, slightly borderline alpha guys and the romance of collaboration, you’d really love this book. Hope you check it out! Click the cover below for a blurb and buy links.

Also…a bit of news while you’re stopping by. I’ll be uploading The Edge of the Earth to the various sales outlets by the end of next week. (Amazon, Barnes and Noble, All Romance ebooks, Smashwords.) The wait is over, Molly Joseph is finally coming. This book was years in the making, and even though it’s vanilla, it’s still by ME, it will still make you squirm and probably cause controversy. Spread the word!

  1. Well I must say I have always had a thing for French men so Theo is freaking sexy to read and so bad ass and not so nice to Kelzee in the beginning. Its funny because he’s such a little boy with a new toy (that he wants very much) when he is around Kelzee its fun to watch him try to control himself and fail at times.

    1. Also will be keeping a look out for your new one. Can’t wait yo read your “vanilla ” book.

  2. Really looking forward to your new book. The next few weeks are going to be an embarrassment of riches of sort for me. I have 17 books preordered due out between now and 9/4/12 and another 5 that I am awaiting that I can’t preorder because the authors are self publishing and I have to wait for word that their books will be available so I can buy them. Then I have another 20+ preordered for the rest of the month of Sept. Of course, I would gladly push them all onto my towering TBR pile if you were to publish Mason’s story sooner. (I know, I know. You said Command Performance would probably be due out sometime in November I believe, but I’m an inpatient and greedy witch, what can I say.)

    1. Oh Juliane, I’m going to try so hard to get Mason’s book out sooner! I already have it out to some beta readers. I love, love, love how it came out so I’ll have it out to you as soon as it’s polished and ready to go, I promise. I love him so much so I can’t wait to get his story out there.

And my goodness, woman! Where do you find time for all those books! I hope you have an ereader, otherwise at that pace I think you would have to build an extra wing onto your house to hold all those books. Actually, that would be pretty cool…an entire wing of yummy books.

  3. Yes, I most certainly have an ereader. In fact, I have had 4 since I bought my first early in 2009. Before that I had over 3000 ebooks that I had purchased in PDF form stored on my MACbook. That is when I discovered my first Annabel Joseph book and relentlessly hunted down everything I could find that you had written and eagerly snatch up each new release the day they become available. Forget flying cars, or going to Mars, the great marvel of the 21st century is that I can put my iPad in my purse with a library of 1500+ books on it and go anywhere in the world and instantly have not only my favorite comfort reads but the latest book by one of my favorite authors downloaded with the push of a few buttons.

    1. So you are one of those early adopters. 🙂 I hate to say how long it took me to give in to ereaders but I would never give up my Kindle Touch now.

  4. I have had an original Kindle, a Kindle Touch, a Kindle Fire, and an iPad. The only one I was disappointed in was the Fire. I burned through 5 of them in less than 6 months. Their USB ports/ battery connectors kept failing in a matter of weeks due to the heavy use I was making of them. I finally decided that cheaper wasn’t always better and upgraded to a iPad for tablet use and keep my Kindle Touch for backup and the occasional bubble bath.

I am an outspoken fan of the ereader and have bought more than a dozen of the darling devices to give as gifts to family and friends over the last 4 years. I have been stopped and given demonstrations of the devices in my doctor’s office, the grocery store and even at the beach. Four or five years ago my dentist’s waiting room was filed with outdated magazines and people idly thumbing through them. Last week, almost every patient waiting was holding a smartphone, ereader or tablet. That has to be a positive sign for the publishing industry and authors everywhere.

    1. That’s awesome. i find myself giving them as gifts too.

And I’ll say this…for my sales anyway, my ebook sales outdo my paperback sales by quite a bit.

  5. Great, great book. I love the metaphor of the black ladybug with red spots.

I also think it’s funny how you chose my favorite books of yours for the one- hundred-sentences sunday haha, Kelsey is my favorite heroine I love that part in the book whenshe confrontates Wayne (saying that what he heard was true cause no one could make a history like that up), she is so fearless. Before her, my favorite was little Prosper that was anything but fierce… go figure, hen?

    1. I know, I think I’m reading your mind. 🙂

I also created a Brazilian character for the book I’m working on next, not the hero but a friend of the hero (he might get his own book one day).

I JUST started it so I don’t know how it will turn out but I might have to hit you up for some Portuguese expletives. How would he say something like “Damn it!” or “You crazy girl!” Those are the kind of things he says. He doesn’t get along with the heroine at first, lol.

I hope I am remembering correctly that you’re from Brazil!

      1. Yeah, I am from Brazil you are right. I feel so glad you’ll write a brazilian character!! I love your books and I love my country so you can’t do no wrong with it, I’m sure of it. And “Damn it” would be “Maldição” but that is kinda formal, for a exclamation we use more “Droga”. And “you crazy girl” would be “maluca” or “sua maluca”.

  6. Oh, I loved this book. It was one of your sweeter ones, but I loved it all the same. Reading this book had me looking at aerial videos on YouTube for many hours. I will never be able to see a Cirque show the same way again.

    1. I was the same way while I was writing it. I was constantly watching those videos to get ideas. 🙂
