Seventeen Sentence Sunday: Command Performance

I’ve been working all night to find good stock art for the cover of Mason’s upcoming book, Command Performance, so I’ve decided to do another snippet from that book this week. My Comfort series fans will know that Mason is the dark haired, boyish-but-sexy movie star who had a hell of a time in Odalisque, the series’ 3rd book.

Once I publish The Edge of the Earth, hopefully at the end-ish of August, I’ll be working full time on Command Performance, getting it edited and formatted for release. My beta-readers, one of whom is a professed Mason fangirl, have all given it thumbs up so far, so I think that’s good. Without further ado… Mason and Miri in Command Performance:

She leaned close, right into his personal space, her breath warm and fruity, her lips as red as the cherries in her glass. “I’ll keep playing your sweet, innocent girlfriend to fix your reputation.”

     He nodded. “And?”

“You catch me up on all the things I’ve missed.”

Mason blinked and bit his lip. “Catch you up on what exactly?”

Miri snorted with inebriated laughter, pulling away a little. “You know, all those things you’re supposedly very good at. Those bad things you do, that have your reputation in tatters. Even that kinky stuff. I’m curry– curwus– curious,” she finally spit out.

Mason would have killed in that moment for privacy. Not just because of what they were discussing, but because of his body’s reaction to her words.

“Miri.” It sounded like a groan. “You’re drunk.”

And down here is where I’d put the cover for you, but I’m still working on it. Stay tuned! More to come.

  1. Annabel, Please hurry! The wait is killing me! I NEED Mason right now. Beth

  2. Thanks guys. And I am so anxious to get this book out there! I love Mason so much. Soon, I promise.

    1. Yes please. Although I love all your books Mercy and Comfort Object are the ones I reread.

  3. I can’t wait for this book to come out (kind of like Mason coming out of his vanilla closet) I think and hope Mason is up there with Matthew and Jeremy. And yeah that the time frame of Command Performance is getting closer and closer.

    1. Well, ya know, he doesn’t have it in him to be as hard-ass as Matthew and Jeremy, but he’s definitely got the emotional/sex-pervert side like them.
I have to get to work on a good Jeremy/Matthew dom next. 🙂

  4. I’m also curry-curwus- curious – and I’m not even drunk 🙂 I don’t see Mason as a hard-ass though, more as a playfully creative kinkster. But I have to admit I wouldn’t mind reading about a dom in the tradition of Mephisto, Jeremy or Matthew again.

    1. Yes, Mason is definitely a man-child type of guy. Then again, so was Jeremy in a lot of ways. 🙂

I have been thinking a lot lately about another hard-ass dom. It’s hard for me to write a good one unless I’m really feeling it, so I don’t want to just throw one together who’s all cardboard. The hard-ass ones are always the most complex…

  5. I can honestly say that I fell for Mason at the NYE party in Odalisque. He was broken (to me) because of his bitch of a wife.
I wanted to smack her one (guest I’m a slut wanting all the dome from your books) (good lordy be that’s a painful thought)
I don’t care if he’s not a hard case Dom like Matthew and Jeremy because its all in the writing that you do so well.

The background story is just as important as the whipping and the like, as long as their is a connection. I have yo say that Beth Kery and you and maybe 4 other authors that I read are the only authors who can write a book were we the readers are privy to the H and h falling in love before they even know, not sure how you do it but keep it up.

    1. Aw, thanks Maddie. I do try to make it more complicated than “They met and there was an instant love connection.” 😉 It is NEVER like that in real life. Mason will certainly have his struggles in this book but he is, at his very core, a man who has the biggest heart, SO much love to give, and just wants to be loved. Jessamine couldn’t do that for him so when he was with her, it was killing him little by little.

Whew, he is lucky he has me to look out for him, huh???!!! I will fix his aching heart. After tormenting him for a while first. heh heh.
